Passing Resemblances

After his cracking goal in Newcastle’s 6-1 beating of Barnsley on the weekend, Jonas Gutierrez finally got to pull his Spiderman mask out from his pants, pull it over his face and web sling around St. James Park.

You`re Breaking My Balls Here Sven
Passing Resemblances

Notts County's football tsar Sven-Goran Eriksson will not be managing the North Korean team at next year's world cup in South Africa according to the East Midlands club. It had been rumoured that Sven would be taking charge of the Communist dictatorship's team on a part time basis in the lead up to the tournament, but apparently no deal has been done.

We like to think that if Sven and Jong-Il had met, it would have played out not unlike the last time a Swede and the North Korean leader didn’t see eye to eye...

Passing Resemblance - PES 2010 Motion Captured Mars Attacks?
Passing Resemblances

For all the improvements in what looks like being a truly great PES game, seeing the players run in PES 2010 in that awkward way is still reminiscent of a scene in the otherwise forgettable Tim Burton film 'Mars Attacks '. The game looks incredible with stupidly good graphics, but a stupid running animation that's just freakishly reminiscent of that creepy alien lady creeping up on Martin Short stands out a mile. Rumours started here are that Seabass is a big fan of the movie and that they motion captured her for the running animation when Messi had a day off.

Passing Resemblance - Seabass and John Virgo
Passing Resemblances
Shingo “Seabass” Takatsuka and John Virgo

Thanks to Konami’s big PR push to appease disillusioned fans this year, we’ve seen more of PES creator Shingo “Seabass” Takatsuka than ever, and ever since it entered our heads, we just can’t look at Seabass without seeing a Korean version of the former snooker player and ‘Big Break’ legend John Virgo.

It’s the hang-dog expression.

Passing Resemblance - The Battlestar Galactico
Passing Resemblances

Another passing resemblance in a big US television programme that has now ended, like the look-alike filled The Wire, this time it’s the recent critically (over) acclaimed ‘re-imagining’ of Battlestar Galactica. By the time the show lost its way in the final season, by far the most entertaining element of the show was how Captain Lee 'Apollo' Adama, played by British Actor Jamie Bamber, looked so much like the final piece in the Galactico jigsaw puzzle at Real, Xabi Alonso. The more I think about a potential Real Madrid/Battlestar Galactica crossover the more I'm convinced 'Battlestar Galacticos' needs to happen.

The Balls - Nike `T90-Cron`
Passing Resemblances

If you hadn't noticed, there's a new ball being kicked around in the Premier League this season, the Nike T90 Ascente. According to Nike it boasts a 360 degree sweet spot, longer range, increased visibility, higher accuracy and greater speed, thanks to its ‘micro-textured- surface’ and ‘three layer premium construction’. This is cutting edge ball technology, clearly. So cutting edge that Nike had no choice but to make it look like Optimus Prime would use it for keepy-uppies. Images after the break...
